Hanging Rock Winery Win Gold  @ Royal Melbourne Wine Show

Great news, Ruth Ellis would like to announce that last weekend Hanging Rock Winery became the proud winners of the top gold medal in the Single Vineyard Shiraz category at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show.
Sources told Ruth that it was a really tight battle between Hanging Rock Winery and Bests Bin 1 2011 Shiraz for the best Shiraz in Show and the best Victorian Wine in show. They also went on to win the Jimmy Watson, so close and yet so far.

Hanging Rock Winery are very happy with the win regardless, as you can see by the look on the boys faces. The photo below has been aptly named Ann and the three stooges.

Mercato at Daylesford tastes success as winner at the Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence - Victoria

Mercato at daylesford located at 32 raglan street, Daylesford has become a Winner in the Victorian Regional Contemporary Australian Restaurant - Formal category for the 2012 Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence - Victoria

Business Owner/Chef and member of Restaurant & Catering , Richard Mee said “it is a great reward for the entire restaurant team who work very hard and take great pride in delivering a high standard to all of our customers.  I would also like to thank my suppliers & local providores who provide me with a bountiful  selection of produce. Thanks must be also extended to the Restaurant & Catering Association, Savour Australia, Hostplus and all the other sponsors.”

More than 170 restaurants and caterers whose businesses are located in metropolitan and regional Victoria were recognised at 2012 ACT Savour AustraliaTM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence at Atlantic [V]  on Monday 13 August to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in food and service standards.

Showing the diversity of hospitality businesses in the Victoria 33 Restaurant categories, 12 Caterer categories and the Savour Australia Consumer Vote Award were all hotly contested this year with some outstanding businesses receiving the winner’s acclaim.  This year the wine list awards also acknowledged businesses for excellence in offering great wine lists to their customers.

Restaurant & Catering CEO John Hart commented that “the Awards for Excellence represent an important moment as the industry pauses to honour these outstanding venues that have been anonymously judged and rigorously reviewed against the entire dining experience rather than a single food or service dimension.

Mercato at daylesford will now be competing in the National finals representing regional Victoria, which is being held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 29 October this year.

Restaurant & Catering represents thousands of restaurant and catering businesses operating across Australia. Each year over 900 members are reviewed in the Awards for Excellence. This is a great promotional and accreditation program for businesses and assists consumers in identifying some stand out establishments.

For the full list of category winners in the 2012 ACT Savour AustraliaTM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence please see the attached list or visit the Restaurant & Catering website at www.restaurantcater.asn.au.

Patiently it waits
The Macedon Ranges are hiding a delicious secret, writes Jane Faulkner, in
The Age. Off an unsealed dirt road flanking the majestic Cobaw State Forest,
just out of Kyneton, is an entrance to a natural amphitheatre surrounded by
rows of vines and now-full dams. It's a special place and home to Cobaw
Ridge, which makes Australia's finest lagrein. Owner-growers Alan and Nelly
Cooper also produce excellent chardonnay, syrah and pinot noir but for more
than a decade they have been championing this rare red.
