After many years of research , Pegeric was established in 1987 at an ultra cool site in the Macedon Ranges , about 85km north west of Melbourne. Two varieties are grown , Pinot Noir and Riesling . The vineyard management practices try to have minimal interference on the native ecology.
There are three labels : Pegeric Tumbetin , Escargot
PEGERIC is a single vineyard wine , produced from fruit grown on our own property. It is our flagship wine and is only produced in years when the quality is exceptional .
TUMBETIN is usually a multi region blend of varieties which we do not grow , such as Cabernet or Shiraz ,but still has to meet our strict selection criteria.
ESCARGOT offers high quality wine at a good price.
PEGERIC is one of the smallest wine producers in Australia , but is producing some of the best wine in the world according to International wine judges.
The three labels have won many medals between them , including a Trophy , Gold , Silver and Bronze medals at both Australian and International wine shows.
In 2007, the 1999 Pegeric Pinot Noir won a Gold medal at the 2007 Japan Wine Challenge. It was one of only 15 Australian wines to win a Gold medal and it competed against 1700 wines from 22 countries. Only 108 Gold medals were awarded in total!
Also in 2007 , both the 1999 Pegeric Pinot Noir and the 1998 Tumbetin Cabernet Shiraz Pinot blend won Silver medals at another prestigious International wine show – the 2007 Shanghai International Wine Competition.
Unlike most wine companies today , generally all our wines receive extended bottle maturation before release . This ensures that you are provided with a wine that is ready to drink , but also capable of further cellaring if you desire . That is why our motto is : PASSION PATIENCE PERSISTENCE
