Cobaw Ridge wines are of individual character and style. All are 100% estate grown, made and bottled, and show full flavours which richly reflect this special vineyard site.
Cobaw Ridge are producers of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz /Viognier (Syrah) and the first commercial production of Lagrein in Australia.
The owners are committed to quality: the vines are hand picked, hand pruned and hand tended and the wines are made with passion and crafted with care.
Established in 1985 by Alan and Nelly Cooper, the position of the vineyard is in a natural amphitheatre, at an altitude of 610 metres above sea level.
The sunny warmer northern slopes of the Great Dividing Range and the mineraly granitic sandy soil play a major part in the success of the vines.
Cobaw Ridge is approximately an hour's drive from Melbourne CBD via the Calder freeway and just 15 minutes east of Kyneton.
"Certified organic (NASAA), adopting biodynamic practices. Alan and Nelly Cooper’s 5 ha vineyard, justly renowned for multi-layered, wheatmealy chardonnay, peppery shiraz/viognier and the best lagrein in the country, achieved full organic certification in 2009." Max Allen
"...Alan and Nelly Cooper's wines are regional benchmarks. Try the savoury Shiraz Viognier, or the unusual Lagrein to see why."... Ralph Kyte-Powell
"...Cobaw Ridge has achieved a reputation as Australia’s leading maker of the rare Italian Grape Lagreins..." Huon Hooke - SMH GL August 28, 2007
"A cuter vineyard and winery you will not find anywhere in Australia. Moreover, it was the first vineyard in Australia to plant commercial quantities of Italian cultivar Lagrein. Never heard of it? Then go and taste it for yourself alongside a juicy, peppery shiraz and refined chardonnay. " Tim White : The AUSTRALIAN FINANCIAL REVIEW . May 18-20. 2007
