Bacchus Hill Winery was established in 2000 by Bruno & Jennifer Mary Tassone, on an 87 acre property purchased from the Wells’ Estate in Bacchus Marsh.
The land was developed into a spacious residence for the Tassone family at the same time as 45 acres of vines were plated, consisting of 10 mainstream varieties,:
5 reds, Pinot, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Nebbiolo
5 Whites: Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon
A 1500 square metre winery complex was built and equipped to operate comfortably at a capacity of 100 Tonne per year, but with a capacity to expand without further capital outlay to 300 tonne per year.
Our first vintage was produced in 2005 and those wines together with the 2006 winestyles are available for sale at our cellar door.
Our cellar door has been built with full restaurant facilities and has 180 seating capacity. The venue is opened on weekends and public holidays for coffee, lunches, and of course wine tastings.
Pizza from our wood fired pizza oven have proven to be a great hit with our customers.
The venue is available for functions, conferences, weddings and other festive occasions. It will be open for dinner, as an a la carte restaurant shortly, which we hope will prove very successful, as it has a peaceful setting overlooking the city lights over the township of Bacchus Marsh.
The Development was officially opened on the 17th March 2007, by the Hon Don Nardella, MP, Member for Melton, as representative for the Minister of Tourism, the Hon, Tim Holdings.. The day proved a great success, with between 250- and 300 people attending throughout the day to enjoy the festivities, stalls, food, and the wonderful jazz concert by Jan Preston in the evening.
Looking into the future, we intend to develop an export market for our wines as Australian Wines for cool climate regions such as ours, have achieved great success overseas.
The stunning view from our winery of the Bacchus Marsh food bowl is worth the trip alone. This is now matched by recent successes with our wines.
At the 2007 Federation Square Wine Region Showcase in January 2007, we won a Bronze for our 2005 Riesling and a Bronze for our 2005 Shiraz. ( this isthe third award for this Shiraz).
At the 2007 International Cool Climate Wine show in March, we won Bronze for our 2006 Riesling, 2006 Chenin Blanc, 2005 Sangiovese and 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon.
