RedBeard Bakery is tucked away down a tiny laneway off High St, Trentham, but this hasn’t stopped bread lovers from finding it in large numbers. The bakers pump out 100 per cent organic crusty sourdough loaves from a restored 120-year-old woodfired Scotch oven. There’s Blonde (casalinga), Carmen Miranda (fruit), Brunette (wholemeal) and Stubble (multigrain). There’s also some excellent sweet baking here, with choices such as rhubarb cake and an orange and almond cake with a creamy filling. On weekends there are also escargot, sticky buns, plain and chocolate croissants on offer. Add in live music, pizza nights and sourdough baking classes and you have it all!”

"This corrugated iron clad bakery/cafe may be tucked away off Trentham's main street but that's not stopping a steady flow of patrons from beating down the door. The bakery's sourdough bread is the star attraction but the cafe hosts a strong support cast. There's a relaxed retro vibe, with laminated tables and a couch area with toys to keep the kids entertained. The menu has comfort in mind; try a baked potato with bacon, guacamole and rocket or zucchini, mushroom and parsley. The pie floater, a flavourful beef pie with chutney in fresh pea soup, is fun and the BLT has crisp "b" and is a fine showcase for the bakery's bread."
