Birthday Villa is a boutique vineyard at Malmsbury in the Macedon Ranges Wine Region. It is situated in the town centre with views of the historic Malmsbury Viaduct. The Birthday Villa name comes from the 19th century Queens Birthday Mine at nearby Drummond, gold discovered on Queen Victoria's birthday.
The 2ha of gewürztraminer vines were planted in 1968; 0.5ha grafted to cabernet sauvignon at a later date.
The Thomas family concentrate on growing high quality fruit nurtured by intensive viticulture practises; producing small batches of high quality wine. The wine is made solely from Birthday Villa grapes by winemaker Greg Dedman.
Birthday Villa wines are marketed mostly in Victoria, at some local restaurants, and at the cellar door.
Current releases 2005, 2006 gewürztraminer table wine received silver medals at Ballarat and Macedon Ranges wine shows. 2006 gewurz was mentioned as a wine to try of the Macedon Ranges in the Gourmet Traveller wine magazine 2007 edition.
Birthday Villa also has a very popular dessert wine gewürztraminer auslese.
The cabernet sauvignon 2005 is an elegant wine which won 3rd prize at the Kyneton Agriculture Show 2007.
In the 2007 edition of James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion, Birthday Villa wines received four and a half glass ratings for its cabernet sauvignon (91) and gewürztraminer (90).
